What is Roost?
We're helping our members and landlords by guaranteeing the rent. Tenants can live in their home for as long as they want, while landlords know they will get paid every month.
We set up housing co-operatives for tenants who want more control and security of their home.
Ever heard of a housing co-op?
The people in the co-op manage the maintenance in exchange for being able to live there longer.
We have a waiting list of 3,000 vetted people who want to move in as soon as possible.
It's not having to answer calls, not having to change light bulbs, not having to skip family.
What Roost does
Roost's tenants
Roost is good for good tenants. The people who are interested in Roost - want to take on the maintenance duties, in exchange for making the home their own and long-term security. All Roost members are vetted with mortgage-level KYC, full referencing and interviews before moving into your property. And in the event of a rent arrears, we cover the shortfall.
Why UK landlords + tenants need Roost
The new renter's rights legislation is an improvement on what came before, for tenants, but it's still not ideal.
What I want, as a tenant, is to know that I can live somewhere for several years — long enough that it's worth making this property into my home.
I'm willing to take a much shorter eviction process in return for much greater security, because I know that I'm going to be able to make the rent payments.
That's what Roost offers. Complete protection to people who pay their rent, and very limited protections to people who don't. We do this via co-operatives.
It's also something that heavily selects for good tenants — for good tenants, eviction-in-case-of-arrears is irrelevant and security is valuable. For bad tenants, the 'normal' deal is much better.
